Since 2022 Georgia has let a lawful weapons carrier, generally anyone 21 or older (18 for certain military members) who is not prohibited, carry a handgun openly or concealed without a license. A Weapons Carry License is still issued by the Muscogee County Probate Court and helps with reciprocity in other states and in a few places where only license holders may carry. Courthouses, jails, secured government buildings and private property where the owner bars weapons remain restricted.
Georgia runs a statewide deer season: archery opens in September, a primitive-weapons week follows in October, and firearms season typically opens in mid-to-late October and runs into mid-January. Either-sex days vary by county, and wildlife management areas hold their own shorter quota and sign-in hunts. Columbus sits between two DNR ranges: Big Lazer Creek WMA in Talbot County to the northeast and Hannahatchee Creek WMA in Stewart County to the south, both with public hunting as well.
